Landfill on the Moon?

We have never heard of the Moon as much as we have in recent years. There were several exploratory missions, both orbital and on lunar soil.


Of the 11 manned missions of the Apollo project, 6 landed on the Moon, the Apollo 11 mission being iconic: Astronaut Neil Armstrong uttered the anthological phrase "This is a small step for man, but a big leap for humanity". We can infer that the Moon was probably contaminated with microorganisms carried by the Terrans.

 And NASA no longer seems to be concerned about this, coupled with the lack of interest in the question of life on the Moon. So much so that it recently changed its policy on space missions.


NASA has updated its policy regarding the amount of contaminants that may remain on the Moon during one of its missions: it downgraded the classification of the natural satellite to category I. This simply means that there are no longer any expectations of finding any kind of life over there; exception are craters with frozen water.


In other words: everything is released, so to speak. There is basically no concern for contaminating the lunar soil or the lunar environment. Especially because soon we will probably have to make landfills there, since besides the scientific interest, the tourist interest is more than clear.

Adeus Rosetta....

   

     No dia 30 de setembro de 2016, a sonda Rosetta foi de encontro  ao cometa 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, em uma queda de 13 horas. Às 7:37 h, encerrava-se magistralmente  a missão daquela que foi a primeira  sonda a pousar em um cometa. O objetivo da missão era analisar o cometa afim de entender sua origem (a de todos os cometas) e mesmo do sistema solar.
Uma falha não esperada durante o pouso de uma outra sonda (Philae), que foi lancada pela sonda Rosetta, que até então orbitava o comenta 67P, comprometeu drasticamente a ousada missão. O terreno onde Philae pousou era muito acidentado, e num quique não previsto foi deslocado para um região de difícil acesso aos raios solares, que o alimentariam através dos painéis.
Mas o marco está registrado, afinal de contas, fazer orbitar e pousar uma sonda em um cometa, em uma viagem que durou 10 anos não é para qualquer um...
